Best Christmas Gifts 2019

Christmas is coming, and no doubt you have a certain special BQ somebody in your life. Buying just the right gift can be tricky, especially if you’re not also BBQ mad. In this list, I have added products that I myself use and find really good. Products range from some of our own SHC gear, all the way up to the King of the Grills, all the way from the U. S. of A. With such a broad range, there’s a gift to suit every budget. So let’s take a look at the Best BBQ Christmas Gifts 2019.

A Note on Transparency

In the interests of transparency, some of the items on this list were sent to me at no cost, for review and feedback. Other items I purchased. Others still are our own SHC products. I’ve made it clear in the article which is which. Either way, these are all products that I like and use: my mother taught me that if I have nothing nice to say, then say nothing!

Also, the links to the products are either SHC shop links or eBay / Amazon affiliate links. Affliliate links mean eBay / Amazon will share their commission with me at no extra cost to you.

Smoking Hot Confessions Tumbler

The Australian summer is hot, real hot. And when cooking BBQ, it only gets hotter! So it’s important to stay cool and hydrated. When tested, the SHC Tumbler took more than 24 hours for iced water to return to room temperature. Made from stainless steel, twin-walled for insulation, and sporting a rubber sealed cap, the SHC Tumbler is the perfect gift for your special BBQ somebody.

Hail Mary T-Shirt

How many BBQ shirts is enough? The correct answer is one more than you have right now! At SHC, we have just the thing. Drawing inspiration from the iconic BBQ pop culture art by Gil Elvgren, the Hail Mary T is black, like all good BBQ shirts should be, comes in both men’s and women’s cuts in a variety of sizes, and of course, both feature Mary, who likes her BBQ smokey, spicy and just a little bit naughty!

'Ribs' by Adam Roberts

Ribs by Adam Roberts (a co-founder of the Australasian Barbecue Alliance) is one of the best BBQ cookbooks I’ve ever bought. Covering several different cuts of ribs from several different animals, Ribs is filled with page after page of clever, creative, and most importantly, delicious recipes. I own the first edition, but a second edition has since been released, with a few revisions and a bit more colour. Either way, this books is a great source of inspiration and creativity for all you rib-lovers!

Beast Armor from Grill Beast

Four years ago, Dave from Grill Beast sent me a Beast Kit for my first ever review. The Beast Armor was a part of that kit, and while all of the gear was really high quality, the Beast Armor really stands out. These are heat resistant gloves that are, surprise surprise, actually heat resistant! These are great not only for handling hot tools, trays, food packages etc, but I actually use them to grab lit coals for exact placement. Aside from a little fray where my dog got a hold of one, after four years of constant use, they’re still going strong.

'Red Hot & Smokin' by Graeme Stockdale

Graeme is the Pitmaster behind the phenomenally successful Stockpot Kitchen: a BBQ Smokehouse and Fried Chicken join in Lismore, Northen NSW. He’s also a keen competitive BBQ’er and brings his signature Crack Chicken to competition and I’ve had more than just a few pieces! Seriously, this chicken is life-changing! Graeme gave me a copy of his book at a Brisbane BBQ competition, and I was really impressed with the creativity of the recipes and the photographs are just beautiful!

An instant read thermometer is a must-have in every BBQ’ers toolkit. They tell you the exact internal temperatures of the meat in seconds, meaning no more tough, dried-out meat! They also let the more experienced BBQ’er gauge the tenderness of their meat to ensure that pulled pork is juicy and tender. A recent review I did of this unit (sent to me by InkBird) found it to be fast, accurate and at an unbeatable price point.

'Temples of BBQ' by Lance Rosen

Lance Rosen is one of the grandfathers of low’n’slow BBQ in Australia, opening what I believe to the be the first ‘Real BBQ’ restaurant in the country. Temples of BBQ is part cookbook, part travel guide, documenting Lance and his family’s tour of the most popular BBQ states in America. Lance gave me a copy at the Brisbane BBQ Festival and it’s easy to see why it won the Gourmand World Cookbook Award for Best Cookbook in the World.

InkBird IBT-6X Bluetooth Thermometer

A wireless BBQ thermometer is essential if you’re going to do low’n’slow BBQ. The InkBird IBT-6X (sent to me by InkBird) has capacity for six probes, letting you know what temperature your BBQ is running at, as well as the internal temperature of your meat. This unit uses Bluetooth to talk to an app on your smartphone, freeing you up for other tasks like mowing the lawn or hanging out the laundry. When I reviewed this unit, I found it to be easy to use, accurate, and at an excellent price point.

InkBird IBBQ-4T WiFi Thermometer

The InkBird IBBQ-4T (sent to me by InkBird) is the next step up in wireless thermometers. In this unit, a WiFi connection is used to send the data from the unit to the cloud, and the cloud to your phone. This means you can have the confidence to step away from your BBQ while doing other things, or even catch a nap after getting up so early to light the fires. While more expensive than the Bluetooth unit, the peace of mind of the wifi connection more than makes up for it.

Recommended to me by an audiologist friend, I was so impressed with these that I bought 3 pairs! With active noise-cancelling technology, they were perfect for our family trip to the USA, making the long, noisy flights far more comfortable. Perfect for podcast fans, or people who like to watch Netflix in bed, I use mine for mixing and mastering the Smoking Hot Confessions BBQ Podcast and of course on those long, noisy flights!

PK Grills PK360

The official grill of the Steak Cookoff Association, the PK360 (sent to me by Hazy Peak Barbecues) is the flagship model of the PK Grills line up. Drawing on nearly 70 years of R&D, the PK360 is made from thick, hand-poured aluminium, stainless steel, and heat-proof plastics, so it’s never going to rust and is a life-time purchase. They also pack up easily and I take mine with me around QLD, doing cooking demonstrations at BBQ Festivals!
